TOKYO, June 11 /Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet/–

ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the
mobile, beyond-PC and digital TV markets, announced on June 11 that it is
expanding Booker’s (TM) eBook store with the addition of eMagazine sales and
services for users of iPhone, iPad, Android and i-mode devices in Japan. Users
can now enjoy Booker’s services on a wider variety of mobile handsets,
including smartphones. Initially, ten Japanese magazine titles (1), ranging
from information to hobbyist publications, will be offered through Booker’s.
The catalog will be increased over time. Booker’s is jointly operated by ACCESS
and the Tokyo Book Shop Group.

ACCESS’ eMagazine services are targeted at magazine publishers looking to
enter the eBook business. As part of its offering, ACCESS will digitize
magazine content, upload the digital content for sale to users through the
Booker’s application available on the Apple App Store, Google (TM) Android
Market and i-mode site, and handle billing transactions on behalf of the
publishers. Booker’s features unique promotional activities that are rolled out
both on the online store and in street-side bookshops operated by members of
the Tokyo Book Shop Group. The eBook business provides publishers new business
opportunities, such as the ability to develop new sales channels, sell content
by feature article, sell digital versions of back issues and develop new
customer segments. Thanks to ACCESS’ eMagazine services, publishers will be
able to enter the growing eBook business more easily.

ACCESS’ eMagazine services are enabled by NetFront (TM) Magazine Viewer, an
advanced digital magazine viewer developed by ACCESS for the iPhone, iPad,
Android and i-mode platforms. NetFront Magazine Viewer delivers an advanced
user-friendly experience for viewing digital books on mobile devices, allowing
users to turn pages by swiping the screen with a finger, just like flipping
through the pages of a printed book or magazine. Other features include the
ability to enlarge text for easier reading, locate a page by a thumbnail
display and make phone calls by clicking on linked phone numbers on the screen
while still reading a magazine (2). In the future, voice and video services
will be added.

ACCESS will continue to enhance the functionality of NetFront Magazine
Viewer to provide an advanced reading eBook experience for users. With the
support of the Tokyo Book Shop Group, the company will expand the Booker’s
catalog of magazine titles to stimulate the growth of the eBook market. ACCESS
also plans to extend its eMagazine services to global markets in the future.

(1) Availability may vary by platform.
(2) The function excludes the iPad.
